VMware on Intel-based Macs?

Seems like it shouldn’t be too hard for VMWare to run on Intel-based Macs. They already have Windows and Linux versions, so it’s safe to assume that they know how to port their stuff.

Ask Bjoern Hansen has written them to enquire and reading between the lines of their reply seems to indicate that yes, they’re going to do it.

Hmm…a fast Windows safely tucked in a sandbox on MacOSX would sure be attractive for many Mac users. I’ll stay tuned.

And by the way, there’s no reason why QEMU should not come to Intel-based MacOSX as well, they’re running most everywhere already.

One Response to VMware on Intel-based Macs?

  1. Theo Van Dinter says:

They’ve been asked this type of thing quite a lot. I was at the LISA 2005 Conference (held the week before ApacheCon US ’05), and there were a number of VMware guys there giving presentations, etc, and they were definitely bombarded with questions about OS X/Mac support since a large proportion of attendees had some form of OS X laptop.

I’d be happy with a native console program so I don’t have to RDC into a Windows box or run it off a Linux server and deal with X11.

People suggested at least getting Workstation ported for Intel OS X since it shouldn’t be too hard to do it. The VMware guys seemed to receptive, and one said he was going to take the suggestions back and put them in more formally.
